BriJ on a PC / Latest emulators for Android on a PC
« on: August 16, 2015, 09:09:35 AM »
Microsoft is promising that you'll soon be able to run Android apps on Windows 10:)

In the meantime there are emulators that some members have mentioned in posts, including BlueStacks.

There are web sites listing other possibilities, e.g. http://www.techbate.com/5-best-android-emulator-for-windows-87xp/

Another free product I've noticed recently is Nox App Player http://www.softpedia.com/get/Mobile-Phone-Tools/Others/Nox-APP-Player.shtml

Has anyone tried this yet?

General Discussion / Printing your Convention Card
« on: February 06, 2015, 09:28:06 AM »
BriJ doesn't have a direct way of printing your Convention Card. But if you don't mind delving a bit, there's a way:
  • Using a file manager such as ES File Explorer, find the brijgames folder. This will be at the top level (typically a sdcard folder) alongside the Download, Music, Video, . . . folders
  • In brijgames you will find a file: ConventionFile.html. (You can view this in the HTMLViewer app)
  • Transfer the file to a PC where you will be able to view and print it with Microsoft Word or Internet Explorer
You could instead view ConventionFile.html in your Browser on the tablet using an address of the form file:///sdcard/brijgames/ConventionFile.html . In this case you might be able to print it directly from your phone or tablet.

Latest News on BriJ Releases / Release 4.07 (Pro) is out
« on: January 31, 2015, 10:59:13 AM »
This release includes a number of enhancements and fixes. They are listed as usual on the Splash screen, but reproduced here for reference:
  • New look card table, showing Dealer (underlined) and clearer Vulnerability
  • Many improvements to bidding: more consistent 'forcing for 1 round' logic; weak 3 opener, doubled, no longer taken as a penalty; other minor fixes
  • Many improvements to playing: plays outright winners when beneficial in any seat (including overtaking when necessary); select partner's suit only when partner was first to lead the suit; continue defender's own suit if no better lead; other minor fixes; more play improvements planned soon
  • Option to show previous bidding and play when running a tournament game or a game you have saved. (This is in beta and only appears in the developer menu)
  • When saving a deal file, Vulnerability now defaults correctly in the 'Save' dialog. Also Dealer is handled correctly for a rotated table
  • BriJ can now read a wider variety of formats used in PBN files created by other software
  • Filename and board identity are now included when you save deal files. This information is also passed from Bluetooth Server to Client so your partner can also identify the hand
  • Space used by STOP and ALERT bids now closes up to fit very long bidding sequences into the playing space available
When using Bluetooth, the table is now rotated automatically to the default NS positions before connecting. (This may be relaxed at a later release)
  • Honour card denominations are now translated for French-speaking users
  • BriJ Targets that you can request in the 'Aim' tab are now correctly ordered for a rotated table
Release 4 also introduced a choice of 8 bidding styles and 9 optional new conventions.

27
This rule has been relaxed in recent released.
You can now mix releases and conventions on the two devices.

Introduction / Sharing deal files and reporting problems
« on: November 29, 2014, 10:08:09 AM »
If you find an interesting hand, you can send the deal to another BriJ player via email.

First save the deal using the Options>Dealing menu. (A quick way to find the menu is to long press the screen). Choose a name for your deal, something like “EastBidsSlam". BriJ then creates a file with a ‘.pbn’ suffix. As well as the deal, the pbn file sets out information about the dealer, vulnerability, the bidding sequence, contract reached and plays made up to the point of saving the game.

The pbn is saved on your Android in a brijgames folder (typically directly under the sdcard folder). Use your Android File Manager (ES File Explorer is a good one and is free) to find the pbn and send it as an email attachment.

Common stumbling blocks when first using BriJ / All cards face up?
« on: November 15, 2014, 07:41:17 AM »
Can't see how to hide robot's playing cards? Long-press an empty part of the table and make sure "Bid all the hands" or "Play all the hands" aren't ticked. ;)
